Not everything NAFEN™ does is mechanical. Certain physical properties of this unique nanofiber also come into play in specialized product applications. For example, in fire-resistant materials, NAFEN™ has shown its ability to increase the performance under flame.
In intumescent coatings, for example, NAFEN™ improves the rate to burn-through, the char resistance and char sag resistance by significant amounts. Likewise, in a space application, NAFEN™ reinforces the polymer matrix and holds char together better (reduced disintegration) than alternative reinforcements in 3D woven ablative materials.
